Why is construction monitoring important?

It is important to understand, first, the benefit of construction monitoring. There are two (2) main benefits, and both accrue directly to the contractor at the site. These benefits are

a. Construction Monitoring protects the contractor from any claims of damage to their building made by the owners of adjacent properties. Data from weekly monitoring reports showing that all values were under allowed threshold values is sufficient to protect the contractor from such claims.

b. Construction Monitoring guides the contractor to use safer construction methods and modify these methods as needed should the threshold values be exceeded at any time.

While, most often, the contractor is the one objecting to Construction Monitoring – primarily due to costs involved – it is done for the benefit and protection of the contractor. As mentioned above, all three components of Construction Monitoring are needed at a site.
